Community Education
The Hydrogeology section has always contributed towards the community education. An annual event coinciding with the World Water Week has been organized by SOPAC for the last few years. Students and members of the public are briefed about the activities carried out by the section and technical explanations are also given. These include explanations on geophysical survey methods, water-sampling techniques, Groundwater management, and World Health Organization water quality standards by staff of Fiji Geochemical Laboratory in MRD.
Pamphlets on groundwater has been published by MRD which are given to students and members of the public during visits to MRD and during World Water Day celebrations each year.
Information on groundwater is also provided to students through mail which are intended to help them write up projects. Mostly, these include photocopied material from Physical Geology text books. Form 7 students doing Geography as one of their subjects have been given such information.
