Mr Ian Fong, Director Mineral Development has left on official trip overseas to attend two Mining related workshop in Australia and Japan and the Water Congress in Malaysia. Mr Ian Fong will return on the 12th of October, 2009. During his absence, Mr Venasio Nasara (Manager Mines) and Mr Luna Wong will act in his position. Mr Venasio Nasara will be responsible for all operational matters while Mr Luna Wong will be responsible for all other geo-scientific matters.

The Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan are jointly coordinating with the Mineral Resources Department a study of all Geothermal potential areas in Viti Levu. The purpose of the study is to identify various feasible geothermal source within Viti Levu that could be further developed to meet the power demand for the Namosi Mine Project. The powe requirement for the Namosi Mine is esitimated to be at 100MW.

Tsunami Warning

A Tsunami warning is being issued for all low lying coastal areas of the Fiji Group. An earthquake of magnitude 8.3 at a depth of 33 KM was located in Samoa early today. The estimated tsunami wave arrival time is expected to be from 8am - 10 am today.

The Tsunami warning issued earlier this morning has now been cancelled from 10am today.

Tsunami Warning

A Tsunami warning is being issued for all low lying coastal areas of the Fiji Group. An earthquake of magnitude 8.0 at a depth of 33 KM was located in Vanuatu early today. The estimated tsunami wave arrival time is expected to be from 12:37 pm - 2:37 pm today.
