The Mineral Resources Department is the custodian of Fiji’s mineral wealth, and is responsible for its exploration and development in a manner that results in the greatest benefit to the country and its citizens. The department is also responsible for providing advice on geological hazards such as earthquakes and tsunamis, and the development of groundwater resources in Fiji. The specific outputs of the department are as follows:

Mines: Administration of Minerals Licenses and Tenements

Occupational Health and Safety : Regular Inspections on Mines, quarries, and prospects for compliance
Administration of Explosive Licenses
Mineral Sector Information/Promotion
Geological Mapping

Acquisition, collation, production and sale of geological, geophysical, geochemical and other geoscientific information as maps in hard or digital form to the general public and investors.
Groundwater Development

Undertake assessment and development of boreholes in villages and small islands for a clean water source.
Seismology

Monitors earthquakes in Fiji and provides awareness programs
